About

I’m Rachael Martin. I Help Teenagers Find Their Way to Happiness.

I am Rachael Martin, a qualified Counsellor and Youth Worker.  The basics to know, I am a wife, mother of 2 kids and one sausage dog called Gus Gus!

Youth work is something I have done since I was 18 years old (I’m quite a bit older than that now!) the Counselling came as a bit of a career change in my mid 30’s. Although now looking back it all makes sense and this is the job I should have always been doing.

Since qualifying as a Counsellor I found myself falling into a niche of Teenagers and their Parents.  I guess the 20+ years as a Youth Worker had seeped into my DNA.  I now work with teenagers who are struggling and their parents who just feel lost with what’s the right thing to do.

Using my skills from youth work, leading people and counselling I am in a position to hold a supportive space for your teenager and also give you insight into how you can help them whilst they navigate a very confusing and challenging time.  Please be clear I will not breach their confidentiality (unless for ethical and/or safety reasons) but it makes sense to me, that we work together.

Your not handing your teenager to a stranger to be fixed. Your gifting your teen the time and space to work through their struggles which will allow them to find their own answers and the key to their happiness.

I Work a lot with

01.

Anxiety

This is one of the biggest issues I see.  Anxiety can cause many issues over and above the fear itself. Things like avoidance, unhealthy coping mechanisms & can have serious effects on their physical health as well as mental well-being

02.

Self-Esteem

A teen with a low self-esteem isn’t uncommon. Neither is the idea that their identity is a HUGE part of their life.  However, low self-esteem can cause multiple issues.  With the right support they can start to see themselves differently and appreciate who they are, who they can be and use this strength for the rest of their lives.

03.

Depression

Teenagers have to deal with a lot of different pressures, expectations and changes. I’m sure this isn’t new information. For some all of this can become too much and they find best way to deal with this is to shut down.

Outside support can help process these pressures and enable change and control to reignite.

04.

Self Confidence

Teenagers have to deal with a lot of different pressures, expectations and changes. I’m sure this isn’t new information. For some all of this can become too much and they find best way to deal with this is to shut down.

05.

Emotional Control

All of my work with Teenagers includes an element of Emotional Control. This is the ability to recognise & manage their emotions to enable them to achieve goals, complete tasks and control and choose their responses to life.

06.

Friendships/ Relationships

Obviously this isn’t a mental health issue but I felt I needed to pick this issue out as it is one of the biggest influences over your teenagers life.

For Teens, the relationships they hold are the top of their values list. When any of these relationships change or break it can have a HUGE effect on their mental & physical health.
